Curious about this as well. Though I fear that the bot rips the page directly so I'm not if a Captcha would stop it.

If MangaFox uses a bot to crawl your reader you should use image-splitting software break your images into multiple pieces so that the MangaFox bot only gets partial images which are worthless to them. Unfortunately I don't know if there is any reader-software out there that supports it, but it would be a surefire way to stop MangaFox from auto-indexing your work. At least for now.

Captchas are a good way to prevent bots from automatically downloading from leech-protected areas, such as our dl server (ie. where direct linking won't work and users have to use a download button), but they'd serve no purpose on our reader. I could write a htaccess file for the reader, but any series worth grabbing would be taken manually and uploaded by either NOEZ or randoms anyway. Besides, we can't do anything about the reader at Batoto, and many people prefer to read our releases over there anyway.

Splitting the images up has crossed our minds, and it is a good way to stop them (until someone decides to take screenshots simply to spite us), but it ultimately isn't worth it. We'd have to use different reader software (or modify what we already have) and continue to delay DDL links, not to mention the extra load on our server and the potential problems client-side.

PDFs won't work on our reader, and I don't think Grumpy will add support for them either.

Well do you have any other surefire way to stop them Mr. Trollpants McLoller? It's basically illegal shit (scanlators) battling illegal/immoral shit (MangaFox) If people can see it on their screens it can be copied, that's the harsh truth.

But since MangaFox works with a bot it's totally unreasonable to blame the leechers. I remember reading in one of your releases something like "were doing this and that because of MangaFox, I warned you guys that this would happen but what did you do? Probably nothing at all". Well, what do you expect us to do then? Except informing people that MangaFox is immoral and unfair, there's not a whole lot that can be done as far as I can imagine. There is certainly no legal framework to stand on whatsoever. So please, enlighten us. As trolling, bashing and spewing bile on MangaFox doesn't change things either.

@Koro: How about a login-system? No access to the materials without logging in for the first 24 hours? Or just permanently. With the login-credentials either being the forum account OR a public account mentioned in the releases forum-post. Of course it's an extra restriction for the users, but personally, I rather jump through some hoops rather than knowing that Japanzai's only option is to delay releases for everyone.

Hmm, just wondering why you are so against holding back the download links for a certain amount of time? And can't those links be "hidden" behind the login-system as well? You really shouldn't listen to people who feel entitled to your work anyway. I mean I presume that with such a system in place you'd still release it publicly after 24 hours, correct? Then those people should just be patient. End of story. If they're too lazy to come over to Japanzai to get it early then that's their own problem.

And yes, even with a login-system there will be people who'll rip it anyway, but that will happen in every scenario. You can't stop people from being selfish/stupid. The only way to stop that is to release nothing at all, and I'm sure that's not what you want to do. A login-system will stop the bot, at least. Not to mention you can do troll-releases (I'm sure PROzess will enjoy doing that) to fool the bot, but that's not a real solution either and could possibly damage your credibility as a scanlators-group (if you care about such things anyway).

The preferential treatment is your own choice of course, and it would be cool for those who are active in the forums. But like you said, it would promote spamming in order to increase the needed post-count. Date of registration would be a better idea, but then there are users who registered but don't really participate in the forums. Or people who just registered, yet are already long-time anonymous readers. It's a bit of an arbitrary line to draw, but I can understand why.

It doesn't have to be creative (though it's funnier). It could be as simple as switching up the page numbers, copying the first few pages over and over again or just inserting blanks that read "Fuck you and your grandmother for reading this on MangaFox". I don't really see the hassle in that
