Nvidia or AMD?
« on: April 20, 2012, 01:10:28 pm »
I'm actually just comparing nvidia and amd, but with the coming ivy bridge processors and amd's trinity apu's, the tide of battle isn't anymore within the bounds of these two giants.

As always, I am an Nvidia fan since cuda started.

AMD bought ATI so they're pretty much the same thing now.  If you need to have your display adapter embedded on the motherboard then Intel graphics may be useful.  But otherwise you're just comparing Nvidia family with AMD family.  And they keep leapfrogging each other in technology.  If money isn't the real issue, contact your favorite game companies and ask them which one they're more likely to support on a future product...

Intel for processors, Nvidia for graphics. CUDA is just lovely~
Don't take the things I say too seriously. Or literally. I don't speak in absolutes.
Everything I say should be taken with a grain of salt. It'll make both of our lives easier.

That depends, usually for games AMD's processors have a better cost/benefit. And in graphics card department it varies a lot, if you want to use it for work you'll probably want a Nvidia.

AMD do come cheap but the mainstream graphics area does only offer half the support that Nvidia gives, not that amd sucks at it though but nvidia is simply prompt. One more thing is nvidia seemed to be far more power efficient in the mainstream graphics. That equates to some savings and could far surpass that cost/benefit in the long run. Well, if you're planning to upgrade your graphics card sooner than a year or two, just buy amd.

And in graphics card department it varies a lot, if you want to use it for work you'll probably want a Nvidia.

Well, if you want a game and work rig in one, you'll probably want it considering you could afford and all.

Hurray for that. I've bought a dozen and one to date of different cpu-gpu configurations for my home and office and intel-nvidia simply is the best match for both business and  entertainment.
